System Reference Document
The Strikermechanica is the system for playing Striker featured in the published core rulebook. It makes use of the d20 as the tasking dice.
In (very) broad terms this mechanic has many features that are similar to classic d20 systems, but it would be a mistake to call this a d20 variant, because it would imply the presence of a whole slew of mechanical features that are simply missing here.
As was stated in the home page:
The Strikermechanica is a pragmatic approach to sci fi gaming. It leverages some of the familiarity of d20 systems, but ruthlessly removes all the baggage, and vastly empowers skills, so that they are now primary.
Summary
Skills and Traits
A Striker character, whether they be a person, cyborg, AI, vehicle or even a striker is a collection of traits. A trait can be:
- a simple statistic, like the number of health points, or your weight
- something that can be used to do something, like your eyesight
- something that you can perform an action with
All of these can come from your sophont (which is the equivalent of a race)
The last item here is called a skill, for most player characters: skills can come from your sophont, but they are more likely to come from your background, profession and vocation. As you will see, the skill is the most significant part of Striker.
