House Yorkin jealously guards this sector, partly because of Altair, the seat of the Dukedom, but mostly because it is a sector in contact with Sol. This does not offer a direct economic benefit, but it buys influence, which can direct policies of the Emperor, striker concessions, and if not the throne itself, the ability to make a pliant emperor.

Altair

The Altair system is very mature for a system governed by spectral type A star. The many small rocky planets, while still mostly very geologically active, are mostly past the heavy bombardment phase.

The many very large habitats are supported by the mining of mostly asteroids (especially any threatening ones), and the enormous power output of the star.

Altair is the main centre of commerce for the inner systems, rivalled only by Babylon, Bizantium, Gemima, Lavinia and, of course, the capital, Basilica Neolodia. It is also the residence of the titular Duke of Altair, a title held for hundreds of years by the House of Yorkin.

Harper

Harper’s primary stellar member is a relatively metal-poor red dwarf, but one of its main features is a 3.4 earth mass, tidally-locked planet, with a broad habitable zone, forming a large star-facing ring.

Ross 154

Despite the stellar member of Ross 154 being a relatively metal-poor red dwarf, it has a number of rocky and icy planets. Since ancient times, it has been a sizeable mining colony, with a lot of ancient infrastructure, some of which is still in operation. Although not a popular destination for those wanting to make a home, there is nonetheless a sizeable civilian population.

Ross 154 serves as a waystation for traffic between Altair and Rigil, and oddly boasts extensive luxury accomodation for military officials.

Stoke

Stoke is a moderately close binary system, with each member having a number of terrestrial planets and asteroids. The closeness of the pair has precluded any icy components, other than belts of kuiper material, which is commonly exchanged between the members.

The civilian population largely resides in an array of ring habitats, arranged around both the A and B members. Stoke is a major centre for ship building, both for strikers and non-strikers.
