Teegarden’s Star

Teegarden’s Star is a very late, old and metal-poor red dwarf. Most of the terrestrial planets are very small except for two that are roughly earth-sized, orbiting very close, and tidally locked, to the star.

Both planets Giles and Goa were terraformed circa 4100, and have maintained populations over broad rings at the edges of the light sides ever since. The centre of the bright sides are used for solar collectors, that both power the settlements and geomagnetic field generators.

Van Maanen’s Star

The Van Maanen system has two main components, the white dwarf stellar remnant at the centre, and a 450-earth-mass jovian, called Rotor, at 25 AU distance. There is evidence that terrestrials were in orbit around the F6 star that Van Maanen was 3 billion years ago. Little remains of the inner terrestrials as they were vaporised in the star's nova, while the outer ones were pulled out of their orbits by Rotor' relatively increased influence.

In orbit around Rotor is a small waystation, which is usually as far as anyone ventures into this system. For the intrepid few, there is a fast-rotating ring of debris within 500,000 km of Van Maanen’s Star. The debris is so close to the star that the inner band of material is partially molten: the outer material only survives because of the shielding by the inner material.

Van Maanen's Star is currently passing through a region of scersic instability associated with the Event of 2509, producing significant interstellar navigational hazards.

Victoria

Victoria is a moderate mass red dwarf of a similar age to Sol and shows characteristics of flare and sunspot based variability, which can, at time double the brightness of the star for short periods of time.

Within 1 AU of the star, there is a single 60 earth mass jovian planet in a highly eccentric orbit, which the rest of the original disk consists of relatively small rocky planets with thick icy crusts out to about 5 AU.
