The gly are a genetically engineered life form that were designed for mental capabilities, rather than physical form. They were developed by Monarchrate scientists in the wake of what was considered, the failure of the xanji. While developed by many laboratories in competing programs, much like with the mogs, they were coalesced into a standard, and were typically indentured workers to monarchrate nobles. They were, and are, prised for their intellectual capabilities, in particular their ability to retain a vast number of facts, like an AI would, but with the right combination of creativity and docility. They are also excellent at working with AIs, because they can set up vast research programs and synthesise the many aspects into useful outcomes.

For many technical reasons the gly have a distinctly non- human appearance. Although they walk upright, are similar in size to humans, have bilateral symmetry, and walk on two legs like humans, they have a rather leathery scaly skin, which appears mottled with orange, mustard, yellow, grey or black in colour. Their heads are vaguely human in shape, but have frills and bumps around their faces and around the backs of their heads. The scales extend down to their fingers.

Although the skin is leathery, it is very supple, particularly on the hands.

The appearance was a useful side-effect during their early Monarchrate existence, because it cemented their class, as distinct from humans, particularly the nobles themselves. Although this appearance can be modified to make them appear human, most don’t, as it is now claimed with a certain pride.

Enhanced Intelligence

Glys are significantly more intelligent than humans on average, although individual glys can be less intelligent than humans, this is pretty rare. Their gift with technology means that they usually have significant proficiency even out of childhood.

Glys are extremely analytical, which usually puts them on the spectrum of Asperger’s syndrome. They analyse, rather than feel, know rather than believe. They can be pedantic, obsessive, or show great discomfort when something is out of place, but also show none of these things.
