Thot

The thot looks a bit like a cross between a prawn and a praying mantis.

However their bodies are much shorter than both of these.

They stand on four legs:

  • The front legs are oriented like the front legs on an insect
  • The hind legs are oriented like the hind legs on an insect

Obviously, as they stand on 4 legs, they do not have the middle legs of an insect.

Thot have four arms:

  • the top pair are larger and designed for power.
  • the bottom pair are smaller, finer, for more precision.

The following image captures the overall shape of the three variants, but much of the finer detail is wrong.

Thot: Alpha, Beta and Gamma

Thot sizes:

  • The alpha thot is the smallest and thinnest, standing at only 1 metre in height. This should be the thinnest and most frail of the three.
  • the beta thot is slightly larger at 1.2 metres, but they are also more robust, having heavier limbs.
  • the gamma is a lot larger than the other two, stands at around 1.6 metres, and is also more robust, again. its limbs are bulky. There is also a much bigger difference in size between their dominant arms and their fine arms.

Remember that thot are aliens they are not insects or crustaceans, they just rememble those in some respects. They have a carapace like insects do (this is their exoskeleton, replacing the need for bones).

Feet

Where an insect's feet are tiny, thot feet are large and are like segmented articulated pads. I found two images that near what I was thinking about:

Thot feet (idea 1) Thot feet (idea 2)

The thot head looks a lot like that of a praying mantis. Their eyes are actually almost exactly like them. Have you noticed how a praying mantis' eyes are quite different to other insects? It's like the pupils come from inside the eye. No matter which direction you are looking at them from, they always seem to be looking at you.

The following image was an attempt on my part to make a thot in armour (at the centre of the image). The size of this indicates that it would be a beta thot.
