Description: The ability to systematically search for items (for use, or as clues) and make effective deductions based on them.

This procedure skill rates your ability to apply a systematic approach to:

• find a hidden object,
• discern from the evidence at a crime scene important details about the criminal or their methods
• determine where in a building someone might logically hide an item
• pour through data to find a pattern or some hidden fragment of knowledge.

The skill differs from Perception, which is a more intuitive ability to spot relevant things. Investigate is about being methodical, doing the work to find something or assemble a picture from clues.

The skill also differs from Insight, which is the intuition you can apply after you have already found something. Insight is more of an educated guess or gut instinct about the significance or consequence of finding a particular item.
