Weapons
The weapons featured in this section are the most common carry-able or portable weapons found in Gul, Jer, Nex and Gausst. Presented are their cost, weight, damage they deal and any special properties they possess. Such personal weapons are classified as melee, ranged and support. A melee weapon is used to attack a target that is within physical reach of you (within 2 metres for a medium-sized creature), whereas a ranged weapon is used to attack a target at distance.
Support weapons are generally considered too large to be carried by a single person (if you are including the set-down mount, extra ammunition or other paraphernalia), but are often moved around by a small team (two or three people). There are many exceptions to this: a person in powered armour, for example, would be able to carry the weapon and the ammunition, while the armour, itself, becomes the mount.
Weapon Listing Explanations
Usage: melee-att(main | bonus-act)
-> chk(TC)= +M(Wpn-Blades-Short)
-> eff= -6(Str,min), 10(audio) -> eff= 1d4 +M +M(Str)(hp,prc)
This has most of typical elements of a weapon listing: it has a single chk statement, followed by two eff statements.
Action Name & Time
The action name is melee-att, and its followed by the timing, presented as two options: a main-act or a bonus-act. Listings are short, so thay can't show everything, but what this is referring to is the fact that this weapon is light enough that most users can wield this weapon in their off-hand, while wielding, either the same weapon, or another suitably light weapon, on their main-hand. Your main-hand attacks with your main-act, while your off-hand attacks (usually at disadvantage) your bonus-act.
The determination that the weapon is light enough is based on the first item in the first eff statement, namely -6(Str,min).
As stated, weapon listings are short, and it's hard to get all of the above ideas into them.
What Skill or Technique Does M Refer To?
It's the chk statement that carries the explanation of what the M is normally referring to: your modifier (M) in the Wpn-Blades-Short technique. Wherever you see M unaccompanied by another technique or skill in brackets, you can assume that its referring to the Wpn-Blades-Short technique.
The last eff statement, showing the damage from the weapon, indicates that you can also add your Modifier (M) in the Strength skill to that damage.
- Str is a common abbrievation for Strength;
- Agl is a common abbrievation for Agility; and
- Per is a common abbrievation for Perception
TC for Target Challenge
You may recall that TC refers to Target Challenge, so chk(TC) is a check against your opponent's TC.
The Effects More Generally
For weapons the first effect statement is mostly about the conditions under which you are using the weapon, or mor succinctly the effect the weapon has on you or your best interests. For melee weapons, you need to know what the minimum Str needed to wield the weapon, and how much sound it usually makes.
- -6(Str,min) means that you can usefully use the weapon if your M(Str) is better than -6. If your M(Str) is -4 (or two better than this minimum), you can consider the weapon as light for the pusposes of the discussion under the "Action Name & Time" heading above.
- 10(audio) is very quiet - it can only usually be heard by someone within 10 metres (someone with 1(audiosense) will hear it if their psv(Per) allows it).
Lastly, its noted that the weapon does pierce damage, being the meaning behind hp,prc at the end of the last eff statement.
