Energy
Category: Resource, Trait
Usage: general(main-act) -> chk|sv= +M ◊ ep(v,max)=EX•(1+M) ◊ ep(v,rec)=EX+M
A trait skill that rates your endurance and fitness.
Maximum Energy Points (ep,max)
At their most obvious, energy points represent your vigour, freshness and wakefulness. If you have few energy points, you are exhausted, if you have near your maximum, then you are bright-eyed and ready for action.
Those with a lot of energy points tend to be able to toil for long periods without rest, they’ve always got a bit more in the tank to get something done. Those with few energy points tend to want to take breathers a lot.
You energy points also change throughout the game. You can lose them from exertion or refusing to sleep or at the hands of energy-based attacks, like a chopper’s enervation conjugate. You regain them mostly through taking rests, but there are some other ways of doing this.
Your Energy affects your maximum energy points, ep(v,max), which are found by:
ep(v,max) = EX • (1 + M(Energy))
That is, add 1 to your Energy modifier, and multiply the result by your EX.
Energy Point Recovery (ep/r)
Energy point loss, just like health point loss is regained after finishing a rest, through healing.
Your Energy also affects the rate at which your Energy points recover after a rest, which is found by:
ep(v,rec) = EX + M(Energy)
That is, add EX to your Energy modifier.
Dropping to 0 Energy Points
If you drop to 0 energy points, you acquire the exhausted condition and mishap(exhaustion-1). You can only perform free-acts and every round, you must make a d12 mishap roll. As your mishap level is 1 in the exhaustion category, if you roll a 1 on the mishap roll, you will acquire the unconscious condition. On any other number, your mishap level increases by 1, so in this instance you will acquire mishap(exhaustion-2).
Instant Death
You will die instantly if you are reduced to 0 energy points, and the amount of energy damage remaining is equal to or greater than your energy point maximum. For example, if you are on 4 energy points and your ep(max) is 14, and you suffer 20 points of damage, then the first 4 of that damage will reduce you to 0 energy points, while the remaining 16, greater than your energy point maximum, will kill you.
Vital Energy Points, ep(v)
You will see numerous references to ep(v), the first being on this page, but also on character sheets and some other rule areas. Put simply, ep(v) just means your vital energy points, as opposed to your stored energy points, ep(s), or your Temporaty Energy Points, ep(t). These are determined differently, and in the case of Stored Energy Points, have nothing to do with your Energy skill.
Temporary Energy Points, ep(t)
You will find references to ep(t), usually in the effects of certain skills. Temporary Energy Points last for a certin amount of time and act like a buffer. If you aquire 16 hp(t) that last 1 hour, then for that hour, if you suffer energy point damage, the damage comes off your temporary energy points first.
