Shuttles

With the size of the shuttle, there is a little more space aside from the striker rod and therefore a bit more versatility. Shuttles are the smallest size that has actual floor space: you can even stand up in some of them.

To get as much contiguous space as possible, shuttles tend to place the bell chamber, piloting and other controls in a cockpit above and at the front of the striker rod apparatus, while crew spaces, storage and cargo are all located under it. This common design solution makes the shuttle rather tall and narrow. It can also make access to the cargo impossible during flight.

As the name of this class of ships suggests, shuttles are best for more short range interstellar travel.

Carrier Shuttle

The carrier shuttle is often used as a very small trader. Surprisingly, it can carry 20 cubic metres internally, and 30 cubic metres in cargo (it can actually garage a car).

Taxi Shuttle

The taxi gives up much of the storage and cargo for transporting people and their luggage. The added life support, makes the taxi a little more resource hungry, but is more efficient than the skiff template for personal transport.

A crewboat is a very small military vessel designed to mobilise a fire team (usually 4 to 5 soldiers) for small operations. The ship participates best in field combat, rather than tactical combat.

The gunboat is a very small attack vessel, built for speed and firepower. It is best used in tactical combat against other vessels: it is rather ineffectual in field warfare, and has all the handling of a brick toilet on roller skates.
