Track (Investigate)

Properties

Skills: Investigate
Actions: where M* = M*(this)
Substitution this for Investigate chk(track) +M(this).

The Track technique is a specialisation of Investigate.

This technique extends Investigate by including the ability to look for signs of the passage of a creature or anything associated with their passage (mostly physical traces, but can include signs of work).

Given that “creature” can include any kind of vehicle, and “terrain” can apply to wilderness, a city block, byte code of a neuronetics program, or empty space, Track must be combined with an aspect to perform its Inquire Action.

For the classic case of tracking of passage through a terrain, use the Bushcraft aspect (such as for a ranger in a wilderness). For the tracking of a vehicle in general, use the appropriate choice Vcl-Air, Vcl-Ground, Vcl-Mech, Vcl-Space, Vcl-Striker or Vcl-Water. To find a missing person or to see their signs of movement in a society, use Society as the aspect.

Track that is more about looking for the signs of tinkering of an artefact or system of record, and the possible discovery of its origins use Bureaucracy, Finance, Law, Cybernetics, Genetics, Machinery, Materials, Medicine, Munitions, Neuronetics, Robotics.

The roll to track can be opposed with the target creature’s own similarly aspected Track, if they are attempting to cover their tracks, or Stealth is an option if using the Bushcraft aspect. If neither is employed then the roll is against a C based on the circumstances of the terrain, society, or technical circumstances.

Track Checks

You can substitute this technique for Investigate for track checks.
